Dr. Heidi Stensmyren, is a specialist in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine and has worked at Sahlgrenska University Hospital and Danderyd Hospital. She has been chairman of the Swedish Medical Association 2014-2020, but did not stand for re-election to take over as president (chairman) of the World Medical Association (WMA).
Since 2014, Stensmyren has been a member of the Swedish Agency for Medical and Social Evaluation, SBU. She sits on the board of Forska! Sverige and is a member of the government's expert group for Life Science.
In 2018, she was ranked by Dagens Medicin as the sixth most powerful person in Swedish healthcare
